Planning and Assessment
Teachers plan the work of the school yearly, weekly and daily. Planning is based on children's needs. Teachers are constantly assessing as they ask questions in lessons and look at work in progress. Teachers use our assessment system Target Tracker as well as marking to inform next steps in children’s learning. We also value assessments where the children are tested against national standards. At the ages of 7 and 11 the children do Standard Assessment Tests (SATs) during the summer term of Years 2 and Year 6. The results show their level of attainment in English, Mathematics and Science as set against national standards. Every child is discussed in pupil progress meetings each half term and catch up / extension is identified.
Children in Year 1 have a statutory phonics test in June. They are required to read a set of words aloud to their class teacher. If children do not meet the threshold, they have another opportunity to do so in Year 2.
You will be invited to meet your child’s class teacher once a term to discuss progress and targets on a regular basis.
